Caricom subraya compromiso de «zona de paz y respeto del derecho internacional» en Caribe
Caricom’s outgoing president, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, reaffirmed the Caribbean’s commitment to peace and international law amidst rising tensions between Venezuela and the US. While emphasizing unity against transnational crime, he acknowledged differing national perspectives within the community, with some members supporting the US stance against Venezuela. Holness highlighted Caricom’s support for member states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also celebrated the year’s achievements, including the free movement of people among several member states and the coordinated response to Hurricane Melissa. Holness stressed the importance of diplomacy and cooperation for regional peace and development, echoing calls for unity from Caricom’s Secretary-General.
